Summery of research part 3
My annotations
Davidson, Julia C., and Elena Martellozzo. "Protecting vulnerable young people in cyberspace from sexual abuse: raising awareness and responding globally." Police Practice & Research 9.4 (2008): 277-289. Academic Search Premier. EBSCO. Web. 14 Feb. 2010.
I chose this article because it dealt with different aspects of my search. It talked about new laws to protect children, educating them, and that the most important thing that must be done to make it all work is to stop the trade of indecent images of children on the internet.

Summery of unit 4
This week’s research has been the best so far! Just looking up books I would like to read in Google books and IT Pro could keep me busy for a lifetime. IT Pro has a great advanced search tool that you can use to really narrow your search if you’re looking for something very specific. I found this tool extremely helpful. In short, all the tools we learned about this week are amazing! I think every student at Clark should be aware that these tools are available to them to use.
Google Books Research
Search Term(s) used: Privacy and laws and COPPA
Citation information for the book: A gift of fire: social, legal, and ethical issues for
computers and the internet by Sara Baase Pearson Education, 2003 Original from the University of Michigan
What clues does Google Books provide that lead you to believe this book is trustworthy? The book sites several references, it was originally from the University of Michigan and the author has 102 other books by her.
IT Pro research
Holy Cow! I love this! The IT Pro has so many books that I could use just for everyday stuff to research material for school. I never knew that this was available and I have been taking e-learning classes now from Clark for over a year. It really could have helped me out on several of my other classes. This is something that every student at Clark should be aware of as a tool for them to use.
I entered the “Home PC” into the search as instructed and found that there are 1503 titles in this category. I looked at several of the books and I found myself very familiar with some of them and in fact had a few of them. But the best part was that I just got a new laptop and it runs windows 7 and I was thinking I will need to pick-up a hot for dummies for it soon so I can learn all the tricks of it. And as if by reading my mind there are several great books on just that subject in full text! I don’t need to buy them! I can read them front to back or just search for what questions I have out of them.
Another great feature was the advanced search field. You can narrow what you’re looking for from titles, authors, full text and things like if it contains certain things or not. You can really narrow down what you’re looking for its way and take your search results from a thousand books to just a dozen.
What a great tool!
